Cedar
Valley Launches YP Group
Cedar
Valley HYP (Happenin’ Young Professionals) will be launching a
young professionals group in the Waterloo, Cedar Falls, Waverly and surrounding area.
More than just a regional resource for identifying dynamic young
professionals through an organizational and collaborative approach
with other businesses and civic organizations, Cedar Valley HYP
focuses on engaging, coaching, mentoring and motivating young
professionals through unique partnerships for the overall benefit of
attracting and retaining young professional to the
Cedar Valley region. Professional
Mentorship, Philanthropic/Effective Volunteer Training, Community
Outreach with diversity, cultural and religious outlets, Educational
and Leadership Development and Advocacy are some examples of
organized programming that Cedar Valley HYP will offer to its
membership within a 40 mile radius of Cedar Falls.
“We also want young professionals in the Cedar
Valley region to make true connections with the community, with business,
and with each other. Our
goal is to provide them with a convenient way to learn about all of
what the Cedar Valley area offers to the young professional and also provide resources and
information of partnering organizations and businesses that allow
them to do that,” said Brett Tjaden, president and co-founder of
Cedar Valley HYP.
Cedar Valley
HYP membership is available to anyone over the age of 21.
The word young does not specifically mean your age, as you
could be young in a profession or even just young at heart!
Cedar Valley HYP welcomes anyone who wishes to be a member
that believes in fostering and developing the
Cedar
Valley’s leadership of tomorrow.
“It is overwhelming to see so many businesses, organizations and
young professionals wanting to partner and collaborate with this
regional initiative. I
have heard so many people and businesses identify the need for an
opportunity to involve young professional workforce, and it is
exciting to see this go from concept to reality,” said Lisa K.
Smith, vice-president and co-founder of Cedar Valley HYP.
“Having the opportunity to communicate to the region all
the services and offerings, along with Cedar Valley HYP events, is
an exceptional service and will have a significant impact on the
Cedar Valley’s economic condition as well as attracting and
retaining our young professionals.
This YP Movement for the
Cedar Valley
region truly benefits everyone who lives, works and plays here.
The support and encouragement has only continued to make me
even more proud to be from
Iowa and live in the Cedar
Valley!”
Cedar Valley HYP (Happenin’
Young Professionals) is dedicated to promoting an environment that
attracts and retains young professionals to the Cedar Valley region
and provide opportunities to those young professionals that will
foster and engage their involvement through a variety of networking
activities, leadership development, professional mentorship programs
and volunteer training. This
will be provided through the organization and through collaborative
partnership with other businesses and organizations throughout the Cedar
Valley
area. For more information, contact: Lisa
K. Smith or Brett Tjaden.

YP
Ames Professional Development Day
April 24
Have you ever
noticed how some team members appear to handle every challenge,
crisis or setback with a sense of calm purpose? They don't seem to
get rattled or rush into bad decisions. As if they could predict the
future, they calmly leverage the right resources and rally the team
to their cause.
Suddenly,
they've helped chart a new course that resolves the issue, and the
project or situation steers back on track. Look closely and you'll
see these people leading quietly from within. This is what we call
the "Flight of the Navigators"; the path of highly
effective project leaders who combine a mastery of collaboration,
management of uncertainty, and customer value to improve project
performance.
Attendees will
come away with an understanding of these concepts as well as
practical strategies for growing skills and tangible ways to apply
them in every-day work settings. The program is highly interactive
and incorporates advanced learning strategies such as embedded and
accelerated learning. "Flight of the Navigators" has been
developed specifically for professionals who are eager to improve
their leadership skills and better position themselves for the next
step in their career.
This
program will include lunch, a keynote session, a general session,
and two break-out sessions. Click
here for more information.

Coalition
Building
As
a Jaycee, coalition building is so much more than networking.
The people I meet and work with become my network.
These people become my coalition of support and my coalition
of expertise. Effective
networking requires coalition building and that is a skill you need
to learn and to practice.
To become a coalition builder, you need not only good networking
skills, you need good communication skills and good leadership
skills, too. These are
skills that the Junior Chamber can provide.
These are skills that the Junior Chamber will give you an
opportunity to practice and develop.
As a member of the Iowa Junior Chamber, you are a Jaycee.
You are a leader in training, an impact member of your
chapter and your community. With
a history that spans over 80 years and more than 40 communities
throughout the state, you
will have an opportunity to develop your coalition through the
Junior Chamber.
Local, state, national, and international organizational levels
allow for continuous opportunities as you grow as a leader.
Personal and professional skills are developed as you serve
your community through business and service projects.
In the act of serving, you will receive hands-on experience,
which translates to the enhancement of personal growth and the
development of valuable leadership skills. This is the total Junior
Chamber Concept.
Membership
is open across Iowa to persons 21-40 years of age that strive to
gain the tools they need to build the coalition of support to be
successful. Often young
people sit back and let others determine how the world is run.
As a Jaycee, you have the opportunity to actively impact your
community, your society, and your future.
